Are you an oyster fan? Well, then you will be happy to hear that the coast of Paraná and Santa Catarina is filled with oyster farms.
According to experts from Japan and Caioba’s Projeto Ostra Viva, the oysters grown in Guaratuba bay are some of the tastiest in the world! This particular farm is growing their certified high quality oysters in the mangroves, and run a rustic restaurant in the neighboring Atlantic rainforest decorated with oyster shells. The oysters are served “in natura” or gratinated over open fire. Wash it all down with a maracuja (Brazilian passion fruit) caipirinha.

On your way to Florianopolis? Well, then make sure to make a stop in the quaint Azorean village of Reibeirão da Ilha. Choose the best of the oyster restaurants –Ostradamus and get yourself a table on the long “boardwalk” which stretches out in the calm lagoon. Watch the sun go down, while ordering another dussin of your favorite kind of oysters. Fresh, steamed or herb infused. Ostradamus has something for all taste buds.

On mainland, just off the south tip of the Florianopolis Island you can take the boat to Ilha do Papagaio. The privately owned island hosts just one lovely pousada with the same name. This little paradise boasts its own oyster farm, and the owner proudly gets you a fresh bucket straight out of the sea upon ordering….just sit back and enjoy, it does not get fresher than that!
